Samuel Woodvine Teece, Age 27

Private, 11381, 5th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

Samuel was the son of Thomas & Rachel Teece of 139 Great Portwood street, Stockport. He had been born in Malinslee and must have retained his connections with the area because after returning home wounded as his address from army records was 5 Stone Row, Malinslee, he died from Pneumonia on the 17th November 1918, just 6 days after the war finished and Samuels’s funeral and burial took place at St Leonard’s Church.

Samuel had been wounded in action at Loo’s on the 28th Oct 1915 suffering Gunshot wounds to the head and feet, he was discharged on 26th Sept 1916 but never fully recovered. Shown below are his discharge paper & his cause of death certificate. See Dave's Book.

In the 1911 census Samuel was living at 5, Stone Row, Dawley (That’s a row of houses in-between Hinkshay and the Withy pool, no longer there) with he’s father Thomas, mother Rachel maiden name Woodvine, and eight siblings, he’s brother was Thomas Teece, Private 12866, 5th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry, who was killed in action on the 25th September 1915.
